The name Blake Lively and Serena van der Woodsen is like peanut butter and jelly; one cannot go without the other. However there is much to know about the woman portraying the Gossip Girl character on screen.

Talent is in Her Blood

Blake was born August 25th, 1987, in LA, California. Both her parents are in the entertainment industry – her mother is a talent scout, and her father, Ernie Lively, an actor. Not wanting to leave her in the hands of babysitters, they tagged Blake along with them on their jobs. Watching and learning, she soon got the hang of things.

From Gossip Girl to Movies: Blake’s Start in Hollywood

Blake first made her mark in Hollywood when she starred as Serena van der Woodsen in Gossip Girl from 2007-2012, earning critical acclaim and propelling her onto Hollywood’s A-list. From there she ventured further into film roles such as those seen in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005), Accepted (2006) and Savages (2012).

Blockbuster Films and Awards Nominations

Blake’s performance as one of Anna Kendrik’s co-stars in the 2015 romantic comedy, The Age Of Adaline, really made everyone sit up and take notice of this dynamic star. This even led to her being nominated for a Golden Globe, opening the doors to appear in more films like The Shadows (2016) and A Simple Favor (2018). She showed that she was more than a phenomenal actress when she exhibited her skills being a producer in a number of films such as the female empowering film The Rhythm Section (2020) and the drama All I See Is You (2017). Co-starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in the Green Lantern opened more than just a door in Blake’s life.

Family Life

Blake met Ryan Reynolds on the set of Green Lantern in 2010. They eventually tied the knot in secret in September 2012, and have four children together. In addition to acting and appearing in movies/TV shows, she’s passionate about child welfare and disabilities, giving donations to charities such as Autism Speaks and Baby2Baby, as well as being an outspoken supporter of women’s rights, and often speaking out against gender inequality in Hollywood.

Red Carpet Style

Blake is widely revered in Hollywood for her effortless yet elegant red carpet attire. Often seen wearing designer brands such as Chanel, Dior, Valentino and Versace, she keeps true to herself while remaining modern; from high-end evening wear to casual street style she always appears effortlessly chic no matter the outfit she chooses.

The Legacy of Blake Lively

Gossip Girl might have been her slingshot to success, but having a tremendous wheelhouse of talents and abilities is what sets Blake apart. Her career keeps rising with each box office hit and award nomination, making her an idol for many aspiring women who want to break into Hollywood. She laid the blueprint with her dedication and hard work for many to follow in her footsteps – a legacy that will last for years to come.
