Actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld was born on December 11th, 1996, in Los Angeles, California. Steinfeld started her acting career at the age of ten in small roles in television and appearing in a series of semi-autobiographical short films which had been written and directed by Cameron Sawyer, including award-winning short She’s a Fox, between 2008 and 2009. In 2010, Hailee was cast in her breakout role in the western movie True Grit, which turned out to be a critical and commercial success. Her performance in the film was well received by the critics and got her nominations for an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award.
Following the international recognition for the role, Steinfeld played the lead role in movies such as Ender’s Game (2013), Romeo & Juliet (2013), Begin Again (2013), and 3 Days to Kill (2014), and Ten Thousand Saints (2015). She appeared in Taylor Swift’s music video for “Bad Blood” and co-starred in the 2015 sequel to Pitch Perfect, in which she also sang. That same year, Hailee released her debut single, “Love Myself,” after having been signed on to Republic Records, and her EP, Haiz, receiving positive reviews. In 2016, she starred in coming-of-age comedy The Edge of Seventeen, earning her a Golden Globe Award nomination.
In 2017, Steinfeld reprised her role in Pitch Perfect 3 and released a new single “Let Me Go.” A year later, she contributed to the soundtrack of Fifty Shades Freed with the song “Capital Letters,” and later starred in the Transformers spin-off, Bumblebee, to which she musically contributed. Hailee lent her voice to the award-winning animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and made cameos in Charlie’s Angels newest remake and Between Two Ferns: The Movie, both in 2019.
Steinfield was cast as poet Emily Dickinson on eponymous series Dickinson, which premiered in 2019 on Apple TV+. In parallel, she continued to release several singles from her second EP, Half Written Story (2020). Steinfield joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2020 in the Disney+ series Hawkeye as Kate Bishop / Hawkeye, a role she is set to reprise in future films or shows. Steinfeld is currently set to reprise her voice role in the upcoming sequels Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (2024), as well as Arcane’s season season, whose release date is yet to be announced.
