Phil McGraw's birthday
Phil McGraw, also known as Dr.Phil, is an American psychologist, TV personality, and author. McGraw is famous for hosting his own TV talk show, Dr.Phil. He was born on September 1, 1950, in Vinita, Oklahoma, to Joseph McGraw and Anne Geraldine. He grew up with his sisters, Deana, Donna, and Brenda, in North Texas.
As an enterprising young man, Phil worked at an A&W root beer stand and a pizza joint in Oklahoma City. He later moved to Kansas with his father, where he enjoyed playing high school football and won a scholarship at the University of Tulsa. McGraw followed his dream of being a psychologist and graduated with a B.A in psychology from Midwestern State University. He pursued a Master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology at the University of North Texas.
Having completed his education, McGraw joined his father at his psychology practice as a partner alongside a businesswoman, Thelma Fox. He later sold his share of the company and partnered with lawyer Gary Dobbs to start a trial consulting firm, Courtroom Sciences, Inc. (CSI). CSI was a success, attracting high-profile clients like Oprah Winfrey and Fortune 500 companies.
As a trial consultant for CSI, Phil McGraw’s experience led to the creation of a TV series, “Bull.” It was at this point that his TV career began. Phil’s work made such an impression on Oprah Winfrey that she asked him to be a relationship and life strategy expert on her show. McGraw’s TV show “Dr. Phil” premiered in 2002 under his company, Peteski Productions, and was produced by Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios.
McGraw’s Dr.Phil talk show became a success; it was ranked 4th by Nielsen media research with 6.69 and 5.69 views in 2018. For a long time, Dr. Phil was the second most popular TV show. In March 2020, the show became the highest-rated talk show. The Dr. Phil talk show boasts two PRISM awards for the most outstanding TV talk show episode and various nominations. McGraw received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2020.
Besides Dr.Phil, McGraw hosted other TV talk shows like The View, The Talk, and Christmas in Washington. He has appeared as a guest on popular TV shows, such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with James Corden, and Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show.” Mcgraw was also an executive producer for the series Doctors, The Amber Rose Show, Marriage Test, Cracking Addiction, and Fairfax. Phil McGraw is a successful author with several books to his name. His best-selling books include the 20/20 diet, self-matters, life code, the ultimate weight solution cookbook, and relationship rescue.
Despite much criticism, McGraw’s passion for psychology earned him presidential recognition for “highlighting mental issues” to “more Americans than any other living psychologist.” In 2006, he was invited to give a presidential address at the American Psychological Association. McGraw’s Dr.Phil talk show has been a game changer for many; studies have shown that viewers are more likely to seek professional help for mental issues after watching the show.
