Are tailored tuxes and classy watches your thing? If so, Chic Spy™ Day may be your new favorite holiday. With all of the awesome spy movies coming out this year, it looks like 2015 is going to be the perfect year for you, too.
The History of Chic Spy™ Day
October 5th, 1962 was a big day for spy aficionados all over the world, for on that day a hero was born as the first-ever Bond movie, “Dr. No” premiered in theaters. People all over the world were enchanted by Sean Connery’s portrayal of James Bond. Mignon A. Gould, the founder of TheChicSpy.com, has said that Bond was and is the chicest character in the world of spy films, with his “international escapades, cool gadgets, and sophisticated style.”
The site that Gould created merges style, entertainment, and pop culture to create a unique mix of the chicest news on the web and the day dedicated to fictional spies was created specifically to celebrate the style of these legends in film and television.
She believes that such icons have forever influenced and continue to influence the very perception of class and elegance, from classic trench coats to oversized sunglasses. “The characters may be fictional,” says Gould, “but their style is real.” There is definitely no arguing with that.
How to Celebrate Chic Spy™ Day
This day is perfect for everyone who is a fan of the timeless style of James Bond and Bond-like gadgets. There are virtually an infinite number of ways that this day can be celebrated. The best one of all is probably to organize a 007-themed party. This does not mean that everyone has to dress up as James Bond, either.
Miss Moneypenny, Q, the Bond Girls − there are many different options to choose from, so make sure your guests know this so that everyone doesn’t show up looking identical. As far as drinks go, vodka martinis and champagne should suffice. If buying champagne for a group of people somewhat exceeds the budget, feel free to substitute champagne with Spanish Cava or Italian Asti Spumante − the truth is that most people can’t tell the difference anyway.
If you have hired a drink mixologist, make sure they’re also dressed up for the occasion, with a simple starched white shirt and smart black tie. As far as entertainment goes, music is an absolute must to help set the mood.
From Tina Turner’s dizzying vocals in “GoldenEye” and Madonna’s tantalizing “Die Another Day” to Adele’s soulful “Skyfall”, there is definitely no shortage of songs to suit the occasion. Roulette would be another fantastic choice for Bond-style entertainment, and your guests could even play with chocolate coins if real ones are not an option.
Finally, here is the recipe for the Vesper Martini, James Bond’s own signature drink that he is seen sipping in “Casino Royale”:
Ingredients: (serves 1)
3 oz Gin
1 oz Vodka
0.5 oz Lillet Blanc
Some lemon peel for garnish
Directions
Add all of the ingredients in a mixing glass and fill it with ice. Stir everything thoroughly and then strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Add a nicely sliced piece of lemon to the drink.
