In most cultures throughout the world, clapping is a universal custom that signifies approval and admiration. It is also often a way that any person, no matter how young or old, can participate with their hands as a ‘musical instrument’.

Clap 4 Health Month is here to promote the practice of clapping, whether as individuals or groups, as a way of aiming toward health and reducing issues like obesity.

History of Clap 4 Health Month

Clap 4 Health is a campaign that was created by the non-profit organization called Shape Up US. The event was founded in 2018 to promote physical activity, no matter how small, in everyday life.

While some people might feel like they need to join a gym or start running marathons to get in shape, the barriers to those things are very high.

Instead, the idea behind Clap 4 Health Month is that individuals don’t have to start a big program or do something huge to get healthy, they can just do small things (like clapping!) with some purpose.

As it turns out, people who spend time clapping regularly have found that it has all sorts of benefits that they might not have been aware of, including physical health, a boosted immune system, fighting depression, and more.

In honor of Clap 4 Health Month, continue learning about and practicing this unique way of making a difference in life!

How to Celebrate Clap 4 Health Month

It’s easy, it’s fun, you can do it anywhere and it’s good for you! So get to celebrating Clap 4 Health Month with some of these delightful ideas:

Start Clapping

While just one clap might not do much, many claps in a row can bring a myriad of health benefits and results. But why?

Well, many people don’t realize that clapping stimulates the 28 different pressure points in the body that help to bring a wide range of benefits to both children and adults.

So put on a catchy song and clap every day during Clap 4 Health Month to promote better all-around health and well-being.

Learn More About Clapping Benefits

As these various pressure points in the hands are stimulated, people who clap for extended periods (approximately 30 minutes) can expect to see some of these health benefits when they clap approximately 1500 times per day:

  • Reduction in headaches, insomnia, and weight gain
  • Better control of diabetes, blood pressure, and arthritis pain
  • An improved immune system means fewer colds
  • Better management of mental health including depression

Make Clapping Fun!

Instead of approaching exercise as a difficult task, it might considered an expression of joy if it’s done through clapping!

Plus, it’s a great way to get everyone involved, especially children. Make a playlist and check out some of these songs, which have been prevalent in pop culture and have promoted clapping:

  • We Will Rock You by Queen (1977)
  • Happy by Pharrell Williams (2013)
  • Cecilia by Simon & Garfunkel (1970)
  • I Wanna Hold Your Hand by The Beatles (1964)
