Date Your Mate Month was founded by a grassroots association of women and men who were hoping to encourage couples to work harder at reigniting the spark of romance which brought them together in the first place.
It seems to have been first celebrated in 1993, but the popularity of the internet in the early 2000s brought more traction to the growing event.
