History of Federal Territory Day
Federal Territory Day dates back to the early 1970s. At that time, the government of Malaysia recognized the need to develop Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan as separate territories with their own unique characteristics and potential for growth. In 1974, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan were established by an act of parliament. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in the history of these territories and the country as a whole.
The establishment of these territories was a significant step in the development of the country. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital, had been growing rapidly and was in need of proper planning and development. Putrajaya, on the other hand, was designated as the new administrative center of the country to ease the burden on Kuala Lumpur. Labuan, meanwhile, was chosen as the site of an International Offshore Financial Center to attract foreign investment and boost the economy.
Federal Territory Day serves as an opportunity for the people of these territories to come together and celebrate their shared heritage and culture, and also reflect on their past and look forward to a bright future. The event is also a way for the government to showcase the development and achievements of these regions and to promote their potential for growth.
