International Sculpture Day
Art has an incredible power to bring people together, spanning geography, cultures, languages and more. International Sculpture Day encourages participation by sculptors, artists, teachers, students and everyone throughout the world to experience the beauty and power of this form of art.
How to Celebrate International Sculpture Day
Looking for a few ideas to get involved with the beauty and excitement of adventure through three-dimensional sculpture art? Take a look at some of these to get started:
Create a Sculpture
Almost anything that a person can imagine in their minds can be recreated and represented through three dimensional sculpture. And International Sculpture Day is just the time to try out this form of art.
Grab some sculpting clay, a whittling knife and a block of soft wood, or some other medium to get started!
Even if it doesn’t turn into something ready to display, the activity of the brain working with the hands to be creative is beneficial to the body and the mind!
Visit an Art Museum
In honor of this day, many museums locally and all throughout the globe, will host special events that include sculpture displays.
They may also host activities such as meet-and-greet opportunities with artists, as well as hands-on sculpture lessons for kids or adults who want to get more involved.
Join International Sculpture Day Events
The founders at International Sculpture Center, encourage communities, schools, universities and artist groups to host events in celebration of this day.
Visit the official website to sign up to receive emails providing alerts and invitations to events that will take place surrounding the day. The website also offers a map of events hosted by ISC members and other participants.
Encourage Students with Sculpture
Teachers and parents can get involved with this event by providing supplies and opportunities for children to explore different types of creating art through sculpting.
From modeling with clay to casting a handprint in plaster, from carving a block of wood to assembling recycled or found nature objects, the options are almost endless to let kids enjoy the beauty and positivity of creation through sculpture.
History of International Sculpture Day
The inaugural celebration of International Sculpture Day took place in 2015 when it was founded through the efforts and passion of the folks at the International Sculpture Center.
Also called ISDay, this event was started with the purpose of advancing the public’s exposure to and understanding of the creative form of sculpture, as well as celebrating the contribution this artform has to society.
The beauty of sculpture is that it can take all sorts of forms, with different shapes and sizes, uses a range of mediums and supplies.
Although some traditional ways of making sculpture include carving stone or wood, as well as casting metal and plaster, there are a variety of other ways to create three-dimensional displays. And International Sculpture Day encourages them all!
