Picture a wide stretch of water, quiet and still, with nothing but laughter echoing from the shore. That’s the spirit of International Skinny Dip Day—a light-hearted, cheeky dive into freedom.

People all over the world take a joyful leap, choosing to swim without clothes, not for shock, but for fun. It’s playful, it’s bold, and it brings folks together in the most natural way possible.

Stripping down for a dip might sound wild, but it carries a deeper message. The day encourages people to embrace their bodies without shame. It’s not about how someone looks, but how they feel—confident, carefree, and completely at ease.

History of International Skinny Dip Day

International Skinny Dip Day, celebrated annually on the second Saturday in July, invites individuals to experience the freedom of swimming without clothing. This observance promotes body positivity, self-acceptance, and a deeper connection with nature.

The roots of this celebration trace back to 1976 when body positivity advocates Lee Baxandall and Eugene Callen proposed a National Nude Weekend each July. In 1992, The Naturist Society, founded by Baxandall, expanded this into Nude Recreation Week.

Building upon this foundation, the American Association for Nude Recreation (AANR) officially designated the second Saturday of July as International Skinny Dip Day in 2018.

This day serves as the culminating event of National Nude Recreation Week, an AANR tradition for over four decades.

Throughout history, notable figures such as Benjamin Franklin and John Quincy Adams have enjoyed swimming in the nude. This practice underscores a longstanding appreciation for the liberating experience that International Skinny Dip Day seeks to celebrate.

By participating in this day, individuals worldwide embrace a tradition that champions freedom, body acceptance, and the simple joy of swimming unencumbered.
