History of NanoDays
NanoDays began as an exciting way to share the wonders of nanotechnology with the public.
Launched in the early 2000s by the Nanoscale Informal Science Education Network (NISE Net), it aimed to bring science directly to communities through hands-on events and demonstrations.
Dr. Gail Jones, a passionate advocate for STEM education at North Carolina State University, played a crucial role in shaping the event’s outreach and educational impact. She envisioned NanoDays as a way to make complex nanoscience concepts accessible and engaging for people of all ages.
NISE Net quickly recognized the event’s potential and helped expand it into a national initiative.
By 2008, NanoDays had grown into a nationwide festival, uniting museums, universities, and research centers across the U.S. From Puerto Rico to Hawaii, hundreds of venues began hosting annual activities that brought nanotechnology’s possibilities to life for families, educators, and curious minds.
Today, NanoDays is celebrated each spring with workshops and interactive exhibits that showcase the groundbreaking ways nanotechnology is shaping fields from medicine to environmental science.
With its continued success, NanoDays has become the largest informal educational outreach event for nanoscience in the country, drawing attention to the incredible impact of this tiny technology on our world.
