National Breast Implant Awareness Month is a time to bring attention to the important issues surrounding breast implants.

This observance highlights the need for awareness about the risks and complications that can come with these devices.

It aims to inform both women considering implants and those who already have them about potential health concerns.

Through education and open discussions, the month encourages informed decision-making and supports women in managing their health effectively.

Reasons for Celebrating National Breast Implant Awareness Month

National Breast Implant Awareness Month seeks to ensure that women have all the information they need before deciding on breast implants, including understanding possible risks like chronic pain, infection, and implant rupture.

Second, the observance promotes conversations about breast implants, helping to dispel myths and provide clear facts.

Finally, it aims to empower women to make choices that are right for them, whether that involves getting implants, opting for removal, or simply becoming better informed about their health.

History of National Breast Implant Awareness Month

National Breast Implant Awareness Month started in March 2018. The Implant Truth Survivors Committee and the National Day Calendar founded it. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons also supported this initiative.

Before the creation of this awareness month, concerns about breast implants had been growing. In 1992, the FDA placed a moratorium on silicone implants due to safety concerns, lifting it in 2006 after further studies.

This period highlighted the need for better information and support for women considering implants. The awareness month now helps fill that gap, promoting education and dialogue about breast health and the impacts of implants.
