How to Celebrate National Classic Movie Day

Considering ideas on how to get involved with this particular day? Check out a few of the these ideas:

Watch a Classic Film

The obvious choice for things to do on this day is to dig deep into the list of favorite classic movies and watch some of them again. Or, even better, encounter a new classic film that you’ve never seen before!

Many of the different online streaming platforms offer a good selection, with the most dedicated being Turner Classic Movies (TCM) that boasts one of the largest film libraries in the world.

Take a look at a few of these favorite classics to get started with:

  • Gone With the Wind (1939) with Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh
  • Casablanca (1942) starring Ingrid Bergman and Humphrey Bogart
  • Cool Hand Luke (1967) featuring Paul Newman
  • The Wizard of Oz (1939) starring Judy Garland

Throw a Classic Movie Day Party

Invite friends and family to join you for a special gathering that celebrates National Classic Movie Day. Encourage guests to dress up as their favorite classic movie character. Serve snacks and treats along the theme, including, of course, buttery theater popcorn!

Join a Classic Movie Club

Check out different classic movie groups in your local area that get together to screen different older films, whether in a small theater on a campus or some other venue.

Those who don’t have one in their city can certainly invite some other movie buffs in and start their own!

Learn Fun Facts About Classic Movies

Get more connected with this day by checking out a few interesting tidbits of trivia that can be learned and shared with others:

  • After the silent film era of the 1910s, “Talkies”, or talking films, started in the mid-1920s and included a recorded dialogue to go with the story of the film
