National Dog Mom’s Day
There are certain times of year that parents of canines may not get as much attention as parents of other types of children – for instance, those of the human variety. But on this day they do!
Because it’s time to show appreciation for these puppy parental figures on National Dog Mom’s Day!
How to Celebrate National Dog Mom’s Day
Check out a few of these ideas or get creative with your own ways for celebrating National Dog Mom’s Day:
Take Your Dog for a Walk
The best way to celebrate National Dog Mom’s Day might be to spend a bit of quality time with your four-legged friend.
Take your pup for a walk, head out to the pet store to pick up a new doggy toy or do some other activity together that helps you to bond.
Post Puppy Pics
National Dog Mom’s Day is the perfect time to start showing off with cute pictures on social media. Dress your little one up in a costume or take a video of him doing something adorable and then share it with the world.
Let everyone on the internet know it’s for this specially sanctioned puppy-parent event!
Treat a Dog Mom
Have a friend or family member in your life who is an avid dog mom? Show her some special love and appreciation at this appropriate time of year.
Send her a card, take her out for a cup of coffee (at a dog-friendly cafe, of course) or offer to meet her at a dog park where Rover can play while you both chat. It’s a fun time to connect!
Help a Pet in Need
Those dog moms who are involved with their own pets may be aware of how difficult it can be when pets don’t have a home. Consider National Dog Mom’s Day a good time to make a donation or volunteer at a shelter.
And even those who don’t have pets of their own can still get a delightful fix of four-legged friends by contacting a local shelter and volunteering to help out on a regular basis!
History of National Dog Mom’s Day
This event seems to have been started around 2018 by sisters Leigh and Casey Isaacson, who had previously built a dating app that was used to connect dog people with each other based on their personal priorities.
These creators of Dig – the Dog Person’s Dating App were super excited to establish National Dog Mom’s Day to show appreciation to dog moms who take care of their precious pups every day, all throughout the year.
National Dog Mom’s Day is scheduled to take place annually just the day before Mother’s Day, as a nod to those who feel their dogs are like their own kids.
Worried that the fathers of dogs won’t have their chance to be honores? Fear not! National Dog Dad Day takes place in June, closer to Father’s Day.
