National Self Employed Day
Innovators, self-starters and entrepreneurs are drawn together on this day to celebrate the imagination they have to turn an idea into reality as they live their lives in a self-employed manner!
How to Celebrate National Self-Employed Day
Of course, many people who are self-employed are also creative types so they can probably come up with their own ideas for how to celebrate National Self-Employed Day! But, just in case, here are a few to get the ball rolling:
Host a Self-Employed Day Party
Invite those gig workers, freelancers, contract workers and other self-employed friends over for a time to hang out.
Share stories, complain, encourage each other, get inspired and just generally benefit from being in the same room with others who are like-minded and have avoided working for “the man”!
Share About Being Self-Employed
Folks who are self-employed often like to share their own tips and success stories – or what didn’t work – with others who are also interested in taking the plunge.
Make some posts on social media, a blog or another space where others can benefit from the community of those who don’t exactly get a regular paycheck!
Celebrate a Self-Employed Friend
Not self-employed yourself? That’s okay! Show some love and appreciation for the gusto it takes to work for yourself by celebrating a friend who is self-employed.
Buy them a coffee, take them to lunch, or treat them to a weekend at the spa, because they truly deserve it!
Join a Co-Working Space
One of the concerns that many self-employed people have is the isolation that can come from working from home.
But many cities and towns are discovering amazing communities of people through joining co-working spaces – where a bulk of the people are probably also celebrating National Self-Employed Day!
History of National Self-Employed Day
National Self-Employed Day was first celebrated in 2023 after it was founded by Jeffrey Shaw of the Self-Employed Business Institute.
The day was established as a tribute to those brave and courageous people who take the initiative to start their own businesses and work for themselves!
In the ‘land of opportunity’ that is the USA, more than 40 million people, including consultants and independent contractors, are considered self-employed by the government’s standards.
Spanning a wide ranges of ages, skill-levels, educational backgrounds and more, the independent workforce generates more than $1 trillion annually – and that’s certainly worth taking note of.
From freelancers to small business owners and so much more, National Self-Employed Day is here to raise a glass to those folks who dream big, risk bigger and make a way for themselves in the work world.
Whether in the gig economy or working remotely, people who are self employed make a huge impact on the world, taking control of their own careers and pursuing business opportunities in a diverse and exciting manner.
And these people deserve to be celebrated in style on National Self-Employed Day!
