With Christmas so close around the corner, in December it’s easy to overlook some of the most unusual days honoring some of the more unusual foodstuffs. But this time of year is just as good a time as any to learn about noodle rings, and celebrate just how tasty they are!

A noodle ring is, rather predictably, made from noodles – especially the flat, tagliatelle type egg noodles. It’s made using a ring mold, or a Bundt tray, with ingredients including cheese, eggs, and flour along with the noodles. When it’s pressed out of its tray, you’ve got a thick ring of delicious noodles baked to perfection.

Because of their striking look and simplicity, noodle rings have been a favorite of dinner parties for generations. Even though they aren’t difficult to make, noodle rings can easily take up the centerpiece of any dinner table. They can be a great treat for vegetarians but work well with chicken and sauce too – the possibilities are endless.

How to Celebrate National Noodle Ring Day

If you’ve got the right ring mold (or, as its more commonly called, a Bundt tray), then you’re all set to celebrate this stylish-looking pasta meal. It works best with long, flat egg noodles, but you can use any kind of pasta that you like. Simply mix it with cheese, eggs, a little flour and cheese – and perhaps season with salt and pepper – and then bake your concoction in the oven until the pasta is soft.

When it’s done, allow the ring to drop gently onto a serving plate and fill the hole in the center with something tasty – like tuna and sweetcorn, fresh chicken salad or your own garlic and tomato creation. Serve with white wine for a cheeky twist on this pasta classic. Since it’s already spectacular looking as far as pasta dishes go, you won’t need to make many changes to it to make your noodle ring the talk of the table!

History of National Noodle Ring Day

It’s easy to see why this culinary creation got its own day. Maybe you’re inspired to make one if this is the first time you’ve heard of this dish, which is likely to be the whole point of this observance.

National Noodle Ring Day honors this scrumptious, stylish treat with a day to place it in the spotlight; and make sure everyone knows that pasta doesn’t have to look boring!
