At the same time, noble girls enjoyed a game called hina-asobi, which involved playing with dolls. These two traditions slowly blended. By the Edo period, families began arranging dolls on tiered stands inside their homes.

These dolls represented the emperor, empress, and members of their court. Families displayed them with care, hoping to bring happiness, safety, and good fortune to their daughters.

The event took place during early spring when peach trees bloom in soft pink. These blossoms symbolized beauty, growth, and kindness. Their timing gave the day its other name—Peach Blossom Day.
