History of Surva Mummers Festival

In 1985, it was officially recognized as an international event, and by 1995, Pernik joined the European Federation of Carnival Cities. In 2015, UNESCO added the festival to its list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This recognition highlights the importance of the event in preserving and promoting Bulgaria’s folklore and cultural heritage.
