Individuals or businesses who have even the smallest amount of property can get involved with Urban Wildlife Conservation Day by considering how to better use their natural space.
Re-wild areas of the city by eliminating the use of pesticides, letting “weeds” grow, taking back abandoned parking spaces, or even adding a rooftop wild space.

Learn About the Urban Bird Treaty
One of the important initiatives of the US Fish & Wildlife Service is a collaborative program with cities to take care of birds.
Launched in 1999, this program supports those who are creating bird-friendly environments in urban areas. Goals include reducing urban hazards to birds as well as engaging communities to help them better understand how to care for and protect this amazing part of wildlife in the city.
History of Urban Wildlife Conservation Day
Established in 2018, this event was founded with the purpose of recognizing and celebrating the more than 100 urban wildlife refuges that function near towns and cities in the United States.
Urban Wildlife Conservation Day was founded through the efforts of the US Fish and Wildlife Service, a US government agency that works to protect and oversee the wildlife and fish along with their natural habitats.
Since it was established, this event has continued to be celebrated annually as a reminder to city and urban officials, along with citizens everywhere, that it’s possible and beneficial to access, protect and enjoy natural spaces within an urban setting!
